HR SUMMIT at Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies draws big crowd.
Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies ( KIAMS) has always stressed on the importance of helping the students to take informed decisions. To achieve this end, among other things, KIAMS regularly conducts Seminars and Summits where students interact with experts and industry practitioners and get to know about latest industrial practices in management. Following this rich tradition, an HR SUMMIT was successfully conducted in Pune on 17th December with the theme ‚ÄúBest to Next: The HR Practices‚ÄĚ. ‚ÄúIt was my first experience of this kind. Actually I had expected it to be boring, but it turned out to be exciting as everything was very informal, where we could ask anything on the subject. In a nutshell it was an enriching experience for me,‚ÄĚ says Vinay with a smile.
Event started with welcome note, invocation, lighting the lamp & introduction ofKIAMS. Lamp lighting was done by Director of KIAMS Dr. Gopal Iyengar, Dr. Janaki Naik, Mr. Sarabjeet Sawheny, Mr. Yogesh Sharma and Ms. Shruti Das.
Leading HR Leaders graced the occasion and the list of dignitaries included Sophia Almeida, Head of Talent Acquisition Group, Siemens; Sreejith Moolayil, Location Head of Human Resources and Talent Manager, Cognizant; Abhijeet Bose, Assistant Vice-President of Human Resources, UTI Mutual Fund Sarbjeet Sawhney, Dy Vice-President of Human Resources, HDFC Bank; Vishal Kukreja, Senior Vice-President of Human Resources , Dhanalakshmi Bank; Deepak Deshpande, VP-HR Net Magic; Mr. Ajit, GM ‚Äď HR,NetMagic; Mr. Vinod, Head HR, DSM. Experts threw light on many facets of Talent Management, Rewards, Attrition, Recruitment, Social Media & Training, and other challenges in Large Companies.
Mr. Sarabjeet Sawhney took the dais first and gave his insight on ‚ÄúLearning and Development‚ÄĚ. He also elucidated the importance of ‚Äėtraining and analysis‚Äô, ‚Äėways to cope up attrition rate‚Äô and ‚Äėsuccession and career planning.‚Äô
Mr. Deepak Deshpande dwelt on the concept of ‚ÄúTotal Reward Management‚ÄĚ. ‚ÄúGood managers reward their employees and make building blocks for rewards‚ÄĚ, explained Mr. Desphpande.
This was followed by a panel discussion on talent management, which highlighted the importance of engaging employees in such a way that they feel they are in perfect job. All the panelists were of the opinion that HR is about people in business not business per se.
Students and audience participated throughout the discussion which kept it all very lively. Many questions were raised but the one which got everyone thinking was: Do people leave company because of their immediate bosses? .After a lot of brain-workout, it was time to treat gourmet cells. But even after lunch everyone one was hungry again‚ÄĒhungry to learn and share experiences.
Post lunch session started with Dr. Gopal Iyengar, Director of KIAMS, explaining the basis of curriculum designing in KIAMS. He invited all the dignitaries to give their valuable suggestions so as to enrich contents of the syllabus and make curriculum more in tune with the ever changing needs of the businesses and organizations. Final panel discussion was dedicated to current trends and challenges of recruitment. ‚ÄúI always wanted to know what recruiters look for in a candidate during the interview. After listening to the learned panelists, now I know that candidate‚Äôs attitude, communication skills, body language and listening skills make a difference in success or failure during the interview,‚ÄĚ recalls Prashant.
Last speaker Mr. Sreejith Moolayi really summed it up by saying that the world has become a global village at a click of a mouse. ‚ÄúBut in an era of information bombardment, which information to use is vital,‚ÄĚ cautioned Mr. Moolayi.
